ENERGY ASSISTANCE
The Comprehensive Energy Assistance Program (CEAP) is designed to assist income eligible households that are in danger of having their utilities turned off or are experiencing other energy-related emergencies. The CEAP program consists of four components:
· Energy Crisis: Provides assistance with utility bills during weather-related and supply shortage emergencies.
· Co-pay: Provides assistance to low-income households through case management and assistance with utility bills. Clients are assisted over a period of nine months. In order to remain on the program, clients must actively participate by setting goals, attending sessions on energy conservation and budget counseling, as well as pay a portion of their utility bill each month. Co-pay clients must be working or attending school. The intent of the program is to achieve energy self-sufficiency in terms of long term affordability for low-income households.
· Elderly/Disabled: Provides assistance to households most vulnerable to fluctuations in energy costs. Up to four utility payments per year are made on behalf of the elderly/disabled for the highest consumption months as determined by their 12 month billing history and priority rating score.
· Repair/Replacement/Retrofit: Assists clients in reducing their energy burden and achieve energy self-sufficiency by addressing inefficient heating and cooling appliances, water heaters and refrigerators.
ATMOS ‘Share The Warmth’ assists clients with their ATMOS gas bills during the cold months.
TXU-Energy Aid assists clients in Copperas Cove and Cameron with TXU electric bills.
